Effects of Global Warming
Global Warming is simply a change in the Earth’s climate that is raising the temperature. The effects of global warming continue to rise as the temperature continues to rise. The changes are being speculated upon but cannot be foretold and surprises will come about in this time of uncertainty with global warming.
The changes that may take place from global warming are expected to be different in certain regions across the world. Some changes may be good for some areas while other areas may have a negative impact from the effects of global warming.
One of the effects of global warming is an increase in extreme weather. Hurricane intensity has been attributed to global warming with the increase in temperature. There has been an increase in category 4 or 5 hurricanes that has been linked to higher sea level temperatures which is also attributed to global warming. It is also being said that greenhouse gases are fueling these storms.
An increase in rain is expected and this is already becoming a problem in Tanzania for farmers as their rain pattern is now unpredictable. An increase in the atmosphere’s temperature can cause higher evaporation which in turn will produce rain because the earth’s atmosphere is closed off. This effect of global warming can cause erosion which in turn can lead to desertification in some regions and in desert area regions a growth of forests.
Glaciers are disappearing across the world due to higher temperature increases. Since the 19th century ended about fifty percent of glaciers have melted. The loss of these glaciers can cause landslides, flooding, overflow into rivers, and overflow of glacial lakes. Some parts of our world may actually run out of water as our glaciers disappear.
The oceans are going to be a major source of change with the effects of global warming. Sea levels are expected to rise due to our glaciers melting. The oceans ability to hold much of the CO2 in our atmosphere is expected to decrease because of the rising ocean temperature, which in turn puts that CO2 back into our atmosphere. The change in temperature is also expected to have an impact on the ocean’s circulation.
Another of the major effects of global warming is going to be on the health of those that live in our world. Doctors warn against possible health effects such as more people dying from higher temperatures. Also a rise in ozone, a pollutant, at ground level can cause many problems, especially with those who have lung diseases and asthma. As Northern Europe temperatures rise, it is being said that more insects may be born carrying diseases such as ticks.
There may also be positive effects of global warming however, the negative effects tend to outweigh those that may be positive. There are many things that we as citizens of this country can do to help with global warming such as driving hybrid cars to reduce the gases that are put into our environment. It is our duty to do what we can to help our atmosphere stay as strong as possible.
