Green cleaning products

Going green is the new slogan for the environmentally friendly age as the world becomes more and more conscious of the impact humanity is having on the earth. From recycling to driving less, even using products that are designed to be eco-friendly, the consumer is trying to make a difference to the health of the planet. Green cleaning products are among the newest in eco-friendly products designed to promote a cleaner environment. The latest innovations from laundry soap, dish soap, and cleaners are now available in environmentally friendly packaging and ingredients. Even personal green cleaning products are available in eco-friendly packaging and products. With the effects of the traditional cleaners on the environment and people’s health coming more and more into question, switching to green cleaners may be a safer bet for many consumers.

However, such a wide variety of cleaners can also be a little confusing to the consumer. Many name brands such as Clorox, Simply Green, and Tide now offer eco-friendly alternatives to their normal cleaning products available on nearly every store shelf. The ‘green’ label doesn’t necessarily mean the product is eco-friendly so a little consumer awareness is in order to know what to look for in a cleaner. A bio-friendly product that doesn’t clean or is an ineffective cleaner is no better than dumping money down the drain. Therefore, consumers need to look at products for both the lack of phosphates and bleach as well as effectiveness in cleaning. Reading the labels as well as doing research on the individual green cleaning products can save a consumer a lot of time and money at the store. Many websites and blogs have consumer opinions about the products so that the buyer can go into a store armed with information about the many products as well as how they can expect work for them.

Other green cleaning products are touted as being made from everyday ingredients that you mix up right at home. Various opinions exist on this since it turns the consumer into an amateur chemist. However, with a little common sense and elbow grease, these cleaners can be used to do the same job as store bought cleaners. A commonly hyped one is baking soda and vinegar. The two mixed together are said to be able to clean almost any surface in the home. Borax is another popular environmentally safe cleaner. It isn’t as convenient since it is a powder as liquid and cream cleaners, but its cleaning power is said to be as effective as any store brought cleaning product. Many other cleaning tips from various on hand household items can be found in books and websites. Buyer beware though, sometimes mixing chemicals can be dangerous to your health and your life. Be sure you know what you are doing before you attempt to mix any two chemicals together.

Going green and using green cleaning products is something that can help save the environment without costing you too much more in the pocket book. By doing a little research and deciding what works best in your home, you can make a difference.
